Level 2 · Before the Trade

Before Entry: The Myths That Pressure the Decision.

The trade can begin influencing the trader before a position exists. Expectations about what “should” happen, the need to make a trading window count, and the excitement of a signal can all pressure qualification.

Belief can become commitment before the trade exists.

Once a trader starts wanting the idea to work, neutral information becomes easier to interpret as confirmation. The solution is not to eliminate conviction. It is to make conviction arrive after qualification rather than before it.

Do not let the story of the trade become stronger than the evidence for the trade.

Force the idea to survive more than one question.

Participation is earned—or rejected.

Before entry, the biggest risk is often not a lack of information—it is the pressure to turn an idea into a trade. This framework helps the trader slow that process down by forcing the idea to survive context, risk, and an urgency check before participation is justified.

Interrupt the story before it becomes a position.

What evidence would make me reject this idea?If nothing can disconfirm it, you are defending a belief rather than evaluating a trade.
Am I evaluating the market—or trying to make my trading window productive? The schedule cannot be part of the setup.
Has one signal become the entire case? One piece of information should not carry context, structure, and risk by itself.

Qualification should become stronger as commitment gets closer.

Before entry, the objective is to keep the idea provisional long enough for the market to earn the trade.
